Active Carbon-Based Electrode Materials from Petroleum Waste for Supercapacitors

A supercapacitor is an energy-storage device able to store and release energy at fast rates with extended cycle life; thus, it used in various electrical appliances. Carbon materials prepared above 800 °C of activation temperatures are generally employed as electrode material for supercapacitors. Herein, we report carbon from a low-cost petroleum waste precursor that was activated using KOH, MgO, Ca(OH)2 only 400 °C. Electrode low-temperature carbons were commercial ink binder. The cyclic voltammetry galvanostatic charge–discharge the electrochemical performance electrodes, studied 3-electrode system 1 M solutions potassium nitrate (KNO3) electrolyte; addition, supercapacitive identified potential window range 0.0–1.0 V. best-performance derived vacuum residue specific surface area 1250.6 m2/g exhibited capacitance 91.91 F/g.
